
Free Software Advocate Richard Stallman at Marlboro
Marlboro, VT - Acclaimed software freedom activist Richard Matthew Stallman (RMS) will discuss Copyright and Community in Marlboro College's Ragle Hall on Thursday, April 26th at 7:00 p.m.
Stallman is a political and software warrior. He campaigns for the free software movement which advocates that users should not have to pay to run, copy, distribute and adapt software.
He's a computer science rock star, said Marlboro College junior Patrick Tyrrell. Amongst the information technology world this guy is a pretty big deal. He's influencing how people use computers and think about technology.
Stallman's lecture will include information on how he believes global corporations are using copyright to keep people from accessing technology and information from all over the world.
Stallman graduated from Harvard in 1974. He's received the ACM Grace Hopper award, a MacArthur Foundation fellowship, the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Pioneer award, and the Takeda award for Social / Economic Betterment, as well as several honorary doctorates.
